Things Are Gonna Get Hairy - The Exhibition!

Thank you all for getting involved with this week's challenge, but before we get down to the exhibition we'd like to say congratuations to Jhael in Kittiwake for identifying that this was Doris' recreation of Vincent Van Gogh's 'Self Portrait With Bandaged Ear and Pipe'

Here's a special well done signed piece of art from Doris herself...

We've had some great art
sent in this week for our
'Things Are Gonna Get Hairy!' Exhibition
A huge range of different breeds of cats and dogs in a variety of styles and media.
Pawsome work everyone! They are pawfect!

Click below to enter the exhibition, then scroll down to read more about each artist & their work.

Aleeza - Kingfisher

Aleeza starts our exhibition this week with this adorable cartoon style picture of a very cute cat with added Manga-style eyes. The use of the bright pink bow really makes the whole picture stand out.

Rayan - Chaffinch

Rayan also used a bold, cartoony style to create his incredibly sweet puppy picture. Great use of shiny reflection areas in his eyes and on his nose.

Mikey

This is Mikey, Aleeza and Rayan's cat, who was watching their art work intently.......Mikey likes having his 'paw-trait' taken.

Elizaveta - Kingfisher

Elizaveta did two very different pieces of art this week. A fabulous colour pencil sketch of Beethoven, the dog from the movie of the same name. She placed him in the foreground, with mountains in the back to give a sense of perspective.
What breed of dog is Beethoven?
Her second piece is a picture made from beads of a particuarly elegant cat!

Rose

Rose didn't show any favouritism, completing a picture of both a cat and a dog. The cat's big eyes are a little like Puss In Boots in the movie. This cat looks like a very mischievous fellow indeed!
She then did a shaggy dog. She used soft pastels for both.
What names would you give this particular cat and dog?

Kio - Kestrel

Kio has captured the 'what are you looking at?' stare that cats can give you as they are walking past 'pawfectly'! You get a sense of him moving in Kio's sketch as his tail has yet to come into view.

Clarabelle - Magpie

This is Clarabelle's first time in Art Club and she has made a great entrance with this cartoon dog, who looks like he is full of energy and very happy indeed.

Ruibo - Magpie

Ruibo has done three pices of art work this week: a more detailed, adorable sketch of a dog's face; a 'big cat' roaming the plains and some sheep (obviously enjoying some quiet time with no sheep dog in sight!) For his last piece he used wax crayons and covered it with a paint wash.

Ms Zahir

Ms Zahir (Yaseen & Rayyan's mum) has created a very effective silhouette style picture using oil pastels. The way she has continued the circles around the moon really draws you into the picture.

Martyna - Mallard

Martyna's cat looks as though it has definitely been up to some kind of mischief by the look of "it wasn't me' on its face! She has used simple shapes to build up her cat, finishing it off with some very effective shading and use of patterns.

Yaseen - Year 1

Yaseen practised drawing a variety of cats and dogs before settling down to this colourful picture of a cat inspired by an abstract piece of art he had seen online. He used oil pastels very effectively to create this and even added a flying fish!

Rui Xuan - Grouse

Rui Xuan has clearly been paying attention to his teddy bear drawing lessons during after school art club. He used the skills that he had learnt well to help him draw this cute cat. He has made his cat look as though it is sitting by effectively showing the pads of his paws.

Klaudia - Kittiwake

This challenge was made for Klaudia as she loves animals, particularly cats it would appear! She has been very busy this week creating an excellent newspaper collage of a cat wedding as well as several other cat inspired art works showing them partying, strolling and sitting. However, she didn't forget the dogs completely as she also painted these lovely dalmatians (clearly wondering where all the cats have gone as they weren't invited to the wedding!)

Ms Harris

Another first for Ms Harris this week when she used oil pastels to create these colourful abstract pictures of a cat and dog. She was also inspired by some pictures that she saw on the internet.
Which one do you think is most effective - why?
Ms Harris has also started her first 'Diamond Art' picture - she has completed about half of it. We'll post a picture when she has finished. If you like bead art and are quite patient you might like to check out some Diamond Art yourself!

Jhael - Kittiwake

Jhael has created two very different pieces of art this week. Her first sketch was built up using circles to get the correct proportions and shape of the face of her dog, before effectively shading it in.
Her second picture is a wonderful abstract painting in bold colours.
Can you identify the two different breeds of dog she chose to draw?

Max - Waxwing

Max was inspired by Andy Warhol's cat series to create this fabulous picture of his dog Berty. He has really captured Berty's outline, then coloured it in using paint, using delicate black pen lines, very much in the style of Andy Warhol.

Ehsan

This week Ehsan completed his own version of the classic Romero Britto style cat. He split up his page into different sections, as well as his cat, using a variety of colours and patterns in each.
Ms Harding

Ms Harding used two different techniques for her art this week.  For her cat, inspired by an abstract picture she saw online, she used paint.
For her dog picture she did a linocut, where you cut away the parts of the picture that you don't want to print, then rollered sticky printing ink over it, before pressing it face down on the paper to create the image.

Rayyan - Year 1

Rayyan practised drawing a lot of cats and dogs before choosing his favourites to stick on his sheet.
He then drew a dog, which looks as though it is excitedly jumping about, with its legs going in all directions!

Pip - Moorhen

Pip chose to do a picture of a particularly iconic dog - Snoopy! He has drawn an excellent cartoon of Snoopy about to play a game of baseball along with his best buddy - Woodstock. Pip has paid close attention to his drawing right down to adding the little detail of Woodstock's headband!
What breed of dog is Snoopy?

Senna - Magpie

Senna drew a dog and a cat for her piece of art this week. The cat doesn't look quite so convinced that it is a good idea sitting next to the dog, but the dog seems very happy about the situation. Senna has also given her dog a very good shadowed effect.

Ayla - Buzzard

And finally to our youngest Art Clubber - Ayla - who has been very busy with all things cats and dogs this week. She made some adorable 3D cats and dogs from card; a cat mask; cat and dog finger puppets; a picture of herself waking a dog and finally a toy for a cat made from a tube which she decorated and filled with dried rice.
All excellent contributions to this week's challeange.

So, thank you all for being so

The next challenge will be coming your way tomorrow (8th June) and be warned....
it is a little strange!
