Thank you all for getting involved in this week's 'We Can Be Heroes' challenge. In this week's exhibition you will find some super superheroes, some heroes from everyday life and some historic, sporting, literary and artistic heroes. All were created in a variety of ways: colouring pencil, oil pastel, paint, soft pastel, collage as well as some toy installations.
Of course we all remember that...
This weekend marks the 72nd birthday of the NHS. As well as illuminating many landmark buildings in NHS blue, there is a country wide Thank You Clap for the NHS at 5pm on Sunday 5th July.

Klaudia - Kittiwake
Klaudia starts our exhibition this week with her fabulous real life superhero - an NHS member of staff, fighting off viruses all around her. She is wearing a face mask and has the medical symbol of a red cross on her headband, belt and boots. She has also used NHS as her superhero badge. What wonderful attention to detail.
Pragas - Waxwing
Pragas has created a fantastic Manga style cartoon superhero. He has added some great little touches like the eye brows slanting down and those big wide eyes looking out for his next superhero adventure.
Senna - Magpie
Senna has chosen to depict her dog as her hero because as she says, 'My hero, here for me, anytime, any season.' She has added some lovely details such as the paw on the superhero badge. She has created a background and made her hero really stand out in the middle. Great stuff!
Jhael - Kittiwake
Jhael has created a fabulous cartoon picture of an NHS nurse. She has made her nurse look very happy and full of energy. She has also used perspective for the path that she is walking on and, by using both colouring pencils and soft pastels, she has created a very effective light bright background.
Ruibo - Magpie
Ruibo has created a wonderful varied bunch of superheroes. Outlining them all in black felt pen while shading them in using colouring pencils has really added to the effect.
Which one is your favourite? Why?
Rayyan - Year 1
This week, Rayyan has created three different, amazing superhero pieces of work. Firstly an exceptionally cute Pikachu, followed by his Lockdown Spiderman. During lockdown, Spiderman's services haven't been necessary so instead he has been at home eating and putting on a little bit of weight! Finally Rayyan arranged his toys and drew a background to create a superhero scene.
Clarabelle - Magpie
Clarabelle has invented her own superhero using movement lines brilliantly. Animal Girl has a great super power which will come in very useful on all her adventures. The possibilities are endless!
What animal could she turn into: to get through small gaps; to outrun someone in a chase or to spy over a tall fence?
Aleeza - Kingfisher
Aleeza has drawn a super cute superhero with Manga style eyes. Her hands are on her hips to show that she really means business. Her striking red skirt and cape really make this picture jump off the page.
Ms Harris
One of Ms Harris' real life heroes is Nelson Mandela who campaigned to bring Apartheid to an end in South Africa. He did eventually manage this, after which he was elected as the first Black president. Having painted the South African flag as her background, she then created a collage of key facts and images around her central figure of Nelson Mandela. When she had finished she took a photo using a filter effect. (the second picture above)
Yaseen - Year 1
For his first piece of art this week, Yaseen created a fantastic superhero picture featuring Owlet and Geko. He has used oil pastels very effectively by using them lightly for the background and then colouring in his characters and foreground harder making them really stand out. Finally he outlined them to make them more cartoon like. He also drew an adorable Pikachu as well as using his toy characters to create a scene around his initial picture.
Max - Waxwing
Max's wrestling hero is Rey Mysterio, a WWE wrestler. He has identified him simply by painting this striking mask that he wears and writing his wrestling name as he is THAT famous!
Why do you think Max choose to use gold as his background?
Rayan - Chaffinch
Rayan is a big Marvel fan so has chosen to draw this great cartoon style Batman. He is looking quite serious as he has obviously got a lot of superhero work on!
Who do you think he will call to help him?
Yousuf - Kittiwake
Yousuf has practised drawing figures in different ways from complete cartoons to more proportioned ones. His final one looks very much like Mr Bean - a real comedy hero. In his first drawing Yousuf has shown some fabulous expression in his character's face by the way he has drawn the eyebrows, laughter lines around the eyes and the mouth.
Kio - Kestrel
Kio has drawn an office scene and then coloured it in using his felt pens. All his office workers do look a little bit shocked and worried to be going back to work. The boss on the right hand side seems to be barking out orders to them all, which we can tell by Kio's great use of movement lines.
Ayla - Buzzard
Ayla has immersed herself in all types of superheroes this week. Her first picture is of Super Jennings, the super headteacher who also loves rescuing animals, hence all the animal stickers around her. A wonderfully effective superhero picture.
In her second picture, she invented the fantastic Carrot Man with special laser eyes to see in the dark as that is a carrot's superpower!
Finally she created a storyboard of all different types of superheroes including Captain Unicorn, Super Ayla, Captain Underpants, Superman/woman/flash!
Ayla's Mum
Ayla's mum sketched a fabulous picture of an NHS doctor to show what heroes they are - very fitting for this weekend's NHS birthday celebrations!
Ms Harding
Ms Harding has got quite a few art heroes but chose to do paintings of two of them. The first is Frida Kahlo which she painted on a small canvas. She then wrapped this in a piece of transluscent flower patterned paper, before photographing it.
The second is Pablo Picasso, a particular favourite of hers, as he experimented with so many different styles of art in so many different ways.
Meanwhile in school...
Miss Harper's Group
The Year 3 children in Miss Harper's group had fun drawing a variety of superheroes, shading them in with oil pastels with an added painted background to produce these effective results.

This week Miss Carter's Year 5 group practised drawing figures in proportion before turning them into their own vibrant personal heroes.
Ameera
Ameera's superhero is her mum.
