Lets Be Illustrators!

Last half term the children's topic was all about Graeme Base and specifically his fantastic book Uno's Garden.

The children looked at Graeme Base's style and the job of an illustrator, having a go at being illustrators themselves.

Then they thought about being illustrators themselves, inventing their own creatures, like Graeme Base. After trying out some ideas in their sketchbooks, they set to work drawing then painting their weird and wonderful creatures.

Having looked at alliteration in Literacy, they thought about the 'text' they could use to go with they illustration & name of their creature in homage to Graeme Base's Animalia book, where each page describes a different animal using alliteration. To create their finished pictures they used paint, black Sharpies, oil pastels and a paint wash.

As some of the creatures were nocturnal, Waxwing class showed some of their illustrations during their recent Nocturnal Animals assembly to their parents.
