Early Man #2 - Cave Art!

Year 3 have started their new topic on The Stone Age with their very own Cave Paintings.

First we sponged a cave wall background using earth tones. This time we used A4 cartridge paper not long strips like we did for our display board background.

While it was drying we looked at a series of Cave Paintings and discussed when and where they were painted, what they depicted, the colours they used and why they were painted.

As our backgrounds were still a little wet, we thought about what we could like to draw on our cave walls and had a practice.

Finally, with our backgrounds dry, we set to work. We used charcoal to draw the outlines of our chosen animals and stickman like humans. Then we shaded in the animals using warm colours, similar to those used in the original cave paintings. We used soft pastels and chalk.

Here are some of our finished ones, now displayed in our classrooms.
