More Groovy Greeks

Year 5 have been complementing and enhancing their study of Ancient Greece through lots of great art work.

Having looked at some pictures of Greek pots and vases, they created their own using wax crayons and a black wash with added washing up liquid. After this had dried they scratched the black paint away, revealing the wax crayon colour beneath, to create their own designs.

Year 5's class book has been The Adventures of Odysseus, which as well as studying during Literacy, has inspired some great Art work as well.......

....such as models of Odysseus' ship.....

....painted story maps....

....and illustrations to complement their written work in a variety of media.

Inspired by their Greek style vases, they went onto to create some very effective 'modern' tiles using Sharpies

Finally to introduce the first Olympics, the children have begun create wire and mod roc sculptures of the different Olympic disciplines of the time.
