We Will We Will Rarrk You!

Year 2 continued their Australian Art adventure this week by looking at Aboriginal Rarrk pictures.

We found out were they originated from and how they were made.

We need to understand these words to help us talk about and describe what we were doing.

We went outside for the rest of our lesson and one of the activities we did was to try hatching and cross hatching with traditional tools - the edges of blades of grass and leaves. We also tried some easier modern methods using very thin paintbrushes, or the edges of thin pieces of card. We all agreed the modern way was easier and guaranteed to be more successful (and quicker!)

Our large practice sheet became a work of art in its own right!

We also used chalk to draw a Rarrk style picture on the playground. Most of us chose to do fish as the people who originally created Rare pictures relied on fishing to survive. Fist we drew the outline of our chosen fish, creature or shape then divided it into different sections. In each section we used a different example of hatching or cross hatching. The final step was adding small circles around the original our line.

We are definitely Rarrk Stars!!
