You've Gotta Move It, Move It!

Year 4 finished their journey into Egyptian Art and begin their Brazilian one by meeting Keith Haring, who was influenced by Ancient Egyptian Art and in turn influence Romero Britto, the key Brazilian artist we will be looking at this term.
Keith Haring decorated Egyptian style artefacts with is own symbolic pictures - we thought thus was like him using his own hieroglyphs.

We looked a little further into Keith Haring's style particularly his use of colour. how he showed movement and the kinds of motifs he repeated.

For a warm-up we got into his style through a warm-up game....

..... before looking at the influence of Anubis on him and how his original dog motif turned into a dancing Anubis.

After our warm up game we investigated Keith Haring ideas and style in our sketchbooks.

We then cut out templates and used small pieces of blue tac to attach the arms, head and legs to the torso so they could be easily moved into different positions. We placed them in different positions and places on our A3 cartridge paper, drew round them and coloured them in using primary & secondary coloured markers. Finally, we outlined them with black Sharpies and drew in our movement lines.

Here are some of our finished ones. We are moving on to look at the work of Brazilian artist Romero Britto and how he was influenced by Keith Haring.
