London Our City

Year 3 have been continuing their London adventures as well as going on a boat trip along the Thames looking out for all the famous London landmarks.

As a warm up we tried to draw the London skyline in one unbroken line, that didn't cross over - a little like Paul Klee.

Then they tried it again, but this time we could put in more detail as we could cross over our lines - but we still we're allowed to take our pen off our whiteboard.

After that we focused on famous London landmarks, sketching them in our sketchbooks. Some of us started with some symmetrical pictures to complete, while others plunged straight in! Can you recognise these famous landmarks.

The following week, having been on our boat trip along the Thames, we focused on reflections of famous landmarks in the water.

We looked at some photographs of night time reflections and discussed what we could see.

Then we began our own pictures. First we drew a horizon line and our buildings using a black Sharpie. We shaded in windows with oil pastels and then did the accompanying reflections in the water below. Finally we applied a blue, purple and black wash to create the nighttime effect we wanted.
