Sensational Sea Creatures!

A couple of weeks ago, Year 1 started their final big picture - a cartoon sea creature of their choice, which they would go on to draw, paint and add some collage bits to.

First we warmed up by drawing our favourite sea creatures on our whiteboards.

Mr Saunders had quite  selection, but liked his crab best!

We then decided on our favourite one. Some of us drew them from memory or our imagination, while some of us used some cartoon pictures to help us.We drew them on A3 cartridge paper, then outlined them with our black Sharpies, before painting them carefully.

The following week, after all our pictures were dry and we had gone over our Sharpie lines so they stood out again, we added some extra bits to our creatures.

To warm-up we played a roll a dice, create a see creature game - we were very good at it!

Mr Saunders was particularly pleased with his results!

Miss Roidou, Mrs Cartwright and Tahira
also got in on the action too! Mrs Cartwright
trying to swing the vote with her fish impression!

Not to be left out Mr Mercahnt, Ms Lu and Rose had a go too!

Games over, down to the serious work of decorating our fish. The lesson today was 'less is more' - we really had to think what would go where to enhance our pictures not dominate them.

Here are some of our finished sea creatures, which are now all up in our classrooms!

When we had finished our sea creatures we practised our bubble creating skills using oil pastels on long pieces of paper and coloured chalk in the playground - bubblious! These were cut out and added to our classroom displays too.
