Challenge 10 - We Are Family!

Thank you so much to those of you who got involved with last week's challenge. If you haven't had a chance to see the exhibition yet, click on the link below.

Before we get on to this week's challenge, here's a quick competition - the first in the occasional series of
What's Doris Up To Now?
If you can find out the title of the original painting that Doris is recreating here and name of the artist send your answers to:

The first correct answer will win an original, signed piece of Doris' art work (she is indeed very talented!)

Now back to this week's challenge....
We can't believe that we are on to the 10th MG Virtual Art Club Challenge already. So in honour of week 10 and the fact that it is half term, we have got a special one for you this week!

We Are Family!

It is called 'We Are Family' because we would like your entire household to get involved in creating an art work this week.

Remember if you require larger pieces of sugar paper Miss Jennings has left some in the North Site office for you to collect.

The basic idea is that you work as a family to complete one piece of art work. For instance you could:

  • Work on a larger picture together each taking a section to complete or one person might draw, another colour, another outline or another add extra details.

  • Create a collage together choosing a theme and working together to build up your picture.

  • Make a 3D model all working together with whatever materials you can find.

  • Find a piece of art and re-create it in with each family member taking a section and then putting it all together.

  • Or even create a family mini exhibition.

The possibilities are endless!

Here are some things we have previously done in school or images we have found to give you some other ideas, should you need them, but anything goes! As long as everyone in your household contributes in some way on a single piece of art!

During an INSET Day a few years ago, the staff at MG created large scale pictures together. They used a long roll of paper, as there were so many of them, but this isn't necessary. They each drew their own section, but had to make sure it linked to the section that their friend was working on next to them.

The children are good at this kind of collaborative drawing already!

A few years ago some Year 6 children worked in groups of 3 to create their own graffiti style Mayan Art, inspired by the artist Dan Fenelon.

Classes have often worked together on different elements before pulling them together as a whole picture - again this can be done on a smaller scale - the pictures below had 30 people working on them!

Each year our friends' children collaborate on a joint family Christmas card.

They are also very good together at working on larger scale models as many year groups did a few years ago for the Arts Trail.

We're sure you will be full of ideas, but just make sure everyone gets involved somehow.....however old of however young!

When you have finished could you send a photo of your family art work to:

by Friday 29th May

Could you also tell us who was involved in creating it
and give it a title.

Enjoy!
