To Klee, Or Not To Klee!

To end their Express Yourself topic, Year 4 looked at the work of Paul Klee, focusing on 4 of the rules he applied to create some of his pictures.

We tried each of the 4 rules in our sketchbooks, before deciding on our favourite, which we then used to try out an idea for a piece of art we will be trying next week.

Here are the 4 rules:

Look how we applied them:

We also looked at some of Paul Klee's pictures to see if we could spot his use of any of the rules.

The following week we created our own art works, applying one of Paul Klee's 4 rules as well as using one of his favourite mediums - watercolour.

When we finished, and while our water colours were drying,  we drew  a Paul Klee-style city straight onto newspaper with a back sharpie and filled it in using brightly coloured paint sticks to see the contrast between paint and watercolours.

The final step was outlining our watercolour pictures, deciding which size was best for our given pictures.

Then we went back to finishing off our colourful cityscapes....

  1. A has been loving all the express yourself abstract art work as well as the trip to tate modern. Keep up the good work art@mg. Lots of my friends children don't get to be as creative as the children at mg. They are very lucky!
