William Morris Detectives

This week, Year 4 started their new topic Habitats & The Local Environment. To tie in with this they are going to do a study of William Morris and the way he took inspiration from nature.



First we learnt a little about William Morris' background.




Then we went on to look at one of his most famous images in more detail.



The Strawberry Thief. 

We really focused on his use of shape, line and symmetry as we drew the missing half of this famous pattern.










We haven't finished them, but are going to continue building up our sketches as part of our warm-ups over the next few weeks. We'll post the finished ones when they are ready.




























We were then true William Morris detectives, investigating more of his  work, hunting for motifs that were inspired by nature.














After some discussion this is what we decided:



Finally, we annotated some William Morris pictures in our sketchbooks, focusing on his use of repeated motifs from nature.
