More apples!

Having looked at the still life work of Cezanne (particularly his apple pictures); the use of colour by Renoir, Year 3 then looked at the pointillism technique of Seurat.

Pointillism was a style developed by Seurat and others where they used lots of dots and dashes of pure colour to create a whole painting. Pointillism used Science ideas – if many small dots are placed close to each other they blur into an image to the eye. This is the same way computer screens work today. The pixels in the computer screen are just like the dots in a pointillist painting.
The smaller the dots, the clearer the painting and the sharper the lines, just like with the screen resolution on a computer monitor.
The style often used dots of complementary colours to make their
subjects look brighter.

A Sunday On La Grande Jatte - Georges Seurat
1884 -1886 - This pointillist painting took two years to complete!

We continued with our apple theme, using pointillism to create our apple pictures. We used felt marker pens to apply dots of colour, close to each other and sometimes overlapping (to mix our colours), producing some fantastic results that Seurat would have been proud of!!
