Year 1 have finished their work on Matisse, becoming Mini-Matisses themselves by following the same stages as the great man himself!
First we looked at some of his famous cut out pictures and discussed them - the colours he used, what we could see, what we liked....
Then just like hime we practised our still life drawing, trying to keep our shapes simple and clear. Some of us tried to make the objects overlap.
Mr Saunders was very proud of his still life!
After that we moved onto our tables and tried drawing some still life pictures based on real 3D objects.
We looked very hard and drew what we could see, but found it really tricky to make the objects look as if they overlapped each other.
Just like Matisse, we moved onto painting our own paper, ready for our collages next week.
We had to paint at least 270 pieces of paper, so we all had enough - some of us stayed in at lunch time to finish AND we brought in some of Year 5 to help us!
Finally once all our paper was dry, we chose the colours we wanted to work with and a background piece of coloured sugar paper, that we thought would make our objects stand out. We started cutting out the shapes of the objects we wanted in our still life - keeping them simple just like Matisse.
Here are some of our finished Matisse cut out pictures. We exprimented with where we wanted the objects to go before we stuck them down.
Even the teachers had a go! (But they're not as good as ours for we are truly Mini-Matisses!!)
We've displayed our pictures near the Year 2 door and Miss Kent's office so check them out!
