Past Adventures #11

Onto the Summer Term when Year 1's topics were Jungles/Rainforests and Underwater Worlds. We started by looking at all things green and mixing our own colours to try and get different shades and tints of green:

Sticking with the green theme we once again mixed our own greens and practised using freeform and geometric shapes for our crocodiles, drawing with our trusted sharpies before painting:

We then looked at drawing close-ups of toucans using oil pastels and starting out pictures with a simple B shape:

After that, we spent a couple of weeks creating our tiger in the jungle pictures. First we did a leafy background using oil pastels, then we drew our tigers, outlined them with our Sharpies, painted them then returned to our Sharpies to add the markings.

Moving on from the jungle we entered a colourful underwater world. First we created some smaller A4 wax resist and blue paint was scenes:

We did several other activities, which sadly have now gone home and the camera wasn't handy on the day, but we ended with a larger picture of our favourite underwater creature. Having drawn it, the children outlined it with a sharpie then painted carefully, before doing a chalk and oil pastel background, focusing on drawing bubbles reflecting the light.
