They looked at what still life meant, practised drawing apples and other fruits in a variety of media, did some fruit printing using primary colours, and drew some simple still life scenes.
Then they looked at how Matisse used collage for his still life pictures. They painted their own paper, just like he did and experimented with their different coloured shapes and where they could place them for their collages.
