In the Summer Term, Year 2 got to grips with Nocturnal Animals and Plants.
They drew nocturnal animals, focusing particularly on foxes, when they ended up creating their own foxes on newspaper in the style of Denise Fielder.
Some of us also tried a similar sort of fox using oil pastels and compared the effect to our painted newspaper ones.
Before we left our nocturnal creatures, we tried making some owls and foxes with different coloured pieces of paper that we cut into different sized hearts - clever!
We also created some chalk and wax day and night prints.....
....before looking at Van Gogh's famous 'Starry Night' We practised his distinctive style before creating our own versions in paint and oil pastels:
We stuck with Van Gogh for the start of our final topic, Plants - using his famous Sunflower pictures as the basis for our class topic display boards. We used oil pastels and a selection of seeds and beans for the centre of each.
We finished our work on Van by looking at his final Iris series of paintings, creating our own paint 'splonge' ones before adding leaves and stems in oil pastels.
We looked at the work of Botanical artists and became botanical artists ourselves going out to sketch some newly arrived planting by the Library Bus.
We finished our topic with some press printing, creating a mosaic style wall of plants as you enter the Year 2 door.
