Past Adventures #14

Meanwhile Year 4 were studying Ancient Egypt, then Brazil for their Summer Term topics.

We looked at Tutankhamen's death mask before creating our own. We also made some moveable mummy sculptures from garden wire and strips of cotton.

We also made and decorated some clay cartouches, as well as our own papyrus, by overlaying strips of paper baking parchment and using Sharpies to create our Egyptian pictures and hieroglyphics. There are a couple of our death masks (mentioned earlier) featured in these photos too.

We ended our unit of work by looking at the influence of Egyptian art of modern artists, creating our own dancing Anubis pictures in the style of Keith Haring.

We ended the Year with Brazil and a detailed look at Brazilian artist Romero Britto, who was also an ambassador for the 2016 Olympic games in Rio.
First we investigated his style:

Then we worked out our own ideas for a picture in his style in our sketchbooks:

We redrew and outlined these on large sheets of sugar paper, before really taking our time to paint them carefully:

When they were dry, we went over the lines again in a slightly thicker marker pen:

Everybody liked them so much they are now framed around the school:
