Year 1 on South Site are a little ahead of their fellow North Siters, so having finished their tiger pictures, they turned their attention to the birds who live in the jungle/rainforests.....
.....focusing on the terrific toucan!
Having discussed a few toucan facts and learnt they had a bill not a beak, we had a practise at drawing some.

(Miss Harper LOVES drawing toucans!)
(So does Ana Rita....she just can't stop!)
Now it was time to create our own colourful toucans using oil pastels. Ours weren't in traditional toucan colours, we chose whatever colours and patterns we liked - the only thing we had to remember was they had to be close-up pictures showing part of the head, body and bill of the toucan. Then we coloured the background green to make them really stand out like they do in the jungle!
We made a fine job of it too!
A flock of North Site toucans will be coming your way soon......and here they are:
