We Go A Bit Dotty!

For the last couple of weeks Year 2 have been looking at Aboriginal Art. Many Aboriginal paintings were created using dots, as they used their fingers to carefully apply colours.

They used their Art to tell stories or describe journeys they had and these were full of symbols. We looked at a few and used these to to practise building up our dot pictures using marker pens in our sketchbooks.

Some of use went on to develop larger pictures based around symbols and patterns. We really focused on getting our dots closed together, but not touching....harder than you think and we had to be very patient!

We added them to our display - our artistic journey through Australia!

In our next lesson we moved on to using paint, applying it carefully using the end of a pencil with a round rubber on top. We made sure that we held our pencils nice and straight, so when we lifted them up from the paper the paint popped up a little and stood out.

Some of us started building up from simple symbols like the one for a waterhole or campfire, while others tried some trickier symbols and more intricate pattern pictures.

We had some very colourful tables while they all dried....
