The Enormous SHAPE Crocodile

This week it was all about crocodiles in Year 1....enormous ones!! For our warm up we drew the layers of the rainforest that we have been learning about in our Topic lessons and thought about which creatures may live in each part.

Then we looked at crocodiles - pictures of real ones and some of Quentin Blake's illustrations from The Enormous Crocodile by Roald Dahl, before having a go at drawing our own...

(Crocodile Dundee-Harper!!)

Then we learnt some new words to describe shapes and used a combination of geometric and freeform shapes to draw our own Enormous Shape Crocodiles.

We had a practice on our whiteboards.....

(Crocodile Dundee Merchant and Riodou get in on the action as well!)

....before setting to work on creating our own. We drew our crocodiles on long strips of paper, then went over our lines with a black Sharpie, so they'd be easy to see and wouldn't smudge while we were painting them.

Then we used a combination of dark green, light green and yellow colours to carefully paint them.

Finally, when the paint dried, we went back over our lines with a broad felt pen to make them and our shapes really stand out.

Can you spot the different geometric and freeform shapes we used?
