Colour

At the start of last half term, Year 3 finished off their work on pattern that they had started before half term.

We learnt to recognise the 5 patterns of nature and reproduce them in simple motifs

We are all expert pattern-spotters now!! We moved on to looking at colour, revising our primary, secondary, warm and cool colours from KS1.....

....before getting to grips with complementary and analogous colours.

We used different colour combinations on our pattern motifs and discussed the results.

A few weeks later, we returned to our colour theme, this time all focusing on the use of complementary colours. We looked at the work of Renoir, who favoured using the complementary colours blue and orange next to each other to make his pictures brighter.

Instead of using them in an impressionistic way, like Renoir, we created our own Pop Art pictures using  key complementary colour combinations. We continued with our fruity theme to tie in with our You Are What You Eat topic.

We decided on the fruit we'd like to draw, painted this in a bold colour, ensuring that the background was painted in its complementary colour.

Finally we outline them and added cartoon shading on some to make them more Pop Arty!
