Here They Come......

To finish off their Anglo Saxon topic and as a precursor to their study of Michael Morpurgo's version of Beowulf, Year 4 focused on the illustrations of Michael Foreman.

We warmed up by practising drawing Anglo Saxon/Viking boats:

We then discussed what Anglo Saxon boats might have looked like in more detail - sadly there isn't much historic evidence.

After that we focused on the illustrations of Michael Foreman's boats in Beowulf, which we will be studying in Literacy next half term.

Then, after a brief demonstration of how to use watercolours from a block, to a palette and how to apply them, we were away....our first venture into using proper watercolours.

When they dried we used a very fine ink pen to outline parts of our drawings and add extra details (like the woodgrain on the boat).

Some more of the fleet have just sailed in...... This time created using pastels and paint!
