First we all drew what we thought his spider web would look like:
We knew it would have lots of lines, but we weren't sure where they should go, so we practised some more, starting off with 8 lines (just like the number of legs a spider has!) coming out of the centre, before weaving our web, until we were experts!
Then we found out all about the Very Busy Spider's favourite artist....Mondrian.
After that, we set about creating our own Mondrian inspired webs for our spiders. We drew our webs, then carefully coloured in sections of them with primary colours using marker pens, making sure we left some white spaces, just like Mondrian. Then we went over our pencil lines with a black pen, drew our spider (making sure we made him furry, just like our teddies) and finally added some google eyes!!
The following week we moved on from learning all about primary colours to experimenting with what happens when you mix them to make secondary colours.
Each table had two primary colours on them, which we mixed together while creating our fork painted spiders to find out what secondary coloured spider bodies we'd create.
Here's what happened! They took ages to dry, so not all of us have added our cartoon faces yet, but here are a few finished ones.
