William Morris Detectives - more clues!

This week Year 4 continued on their William Morris adventure, investigating in more detail what inspired him and what images and motifs he repeated. They looked at four different examples of his work and annotated them in their sketchbooks.

Then they looked closely at a variety of natural objects: leaves, shells, pine cones, bugs and flowers. They drew them in detail, gradually simplifying them to a basic shape that they could work with later, when designing their own motifs.

Next week they are going to collect all sorts of natural materials to make a large scale collage - it'll be a sort of William Morris/Andy Goldsworthy mash-up.....watch this space!

  1. It was so fun doing this and it was so exiting because we were trying to field motifs in William Morris' actual work (obviously his printed work otherwise it wold be slightly ridiculous!?.) :-):-):-)
