After their portraits of Florence Nightingale, Year 2 moved onto looking at a portrait of Mary Seacole (that can be found in the National Portrait Gallery). We used it to learn about portraits in profile, as all the portraits we have done of Florence Nightingale have been front on.
We worked in groups as Picture Detectives, looking at Mary Seacole's portrait in detail, using it as evidence to find out about her. Here are all our group's ideas put together:
Then we practised drawing portraits in profile - this was tricky, MUCH harder than front on portraits.
Finally, we used the portrait of Mary Seacole to help us 'age' our pictures, by putting some wrinkles in!
Waxwing, went on to do some full colour pictures of Mary Seacole, based on the famous original - this was EXTRA, EXTRA, EXTRA tricky as she isn't even in complete profile.
