Portraits, Portraits, Portraits!

As part of their work on Florence Nightingale and Mary Seacole - Year 2 have been looking at drawing portraits - front on, profile and most recently combining the two in Picasso-like abstract pictures!

We looked carefully at the proportions of the face, when we practised drawing front on and profile portraits to see where all the features go....







Here are some examples of all three in our sketchbooks....we all agree profiles are THE MOST TRICKY!!


































We all loved doing our front on/profile Picasso abstract mash-ups!! It didn't matter if you got all the bits in the right place because as Picasso himself said:
"Learn the rules like a pro, so you can break them like an artist"

After a bit of practice we were ready to start our abstract portrait masterpieces. First we folded our paper in half to get a centre line, then we drew our profile half of the face, before adding our front on half of the face to the other side. We coloured in our portraits carefully using large markers, finally outlining in black.
