Flutter By Butterflies!

Year 1 finished off their Art work on minibeasts last half term, by looking at butterflies.

For their warm-up they drew all the mini beasts we had looked at so far.

Mr Saunders - master of the mini beast!

Then we focused just on butterflies, beginning to think what symmetry means.

After that we looked at the butterfly art work of Damien Hirst.

We were going to attempt to create our own stained glass window in the hall made up of lots of butterflies.

To do this, we placed a piece of acetate over a butterfly template. We all did the same outline with a black Sharpie, to ensure our butterflies were a uniform size, Some of used the existing inside pattern, tracing over that to get us started, but most of us when on to create our own designs inside.

We took the template away and placed our acetate on a clean sheet of paper, so we could see what we were doing clearly. Then we started colouring in our design with Sharpies.

This post is a little after the event as we've only just cut them out and started putting them up. Here is the start of our stained glass window - a little bit more work still to do to get the arch at the top.
