First we drew what birds we thought might live in the jungle or the rainforest.
Then we started to look more closely at toucans, learning a few key facts about them as we went along!
They are some of the noisiest birds in the jungle -
we were great at impersonating them!
After that we looked a the difference in drawing a whole toucan and a close up of a toucan. We started by having our boards portrait and drawing a large B like shape on one side. We then added the huge bill and the eye to create a simple close up of a toucan.
We then moved on to drawing our toucans on A5 cartridge paper, before using oil pastels to colour them in - we coloured them any way we wanted, not sticking to traditional toucan colours. We also tried to blend our colours. Finally we used different greens and yellows for our background, so our toucans would really stand out.
The last touch was outlining our pencil lines with a black oil pastel, so our toucans really stood out. Here are some of our finished ones that are now proudly perched all over our classrooms.
