Papyrus Manufacturing Inc.

Over the last couple of week's Year 4 have been making their own papyrus and using it to draw and decorate their own Ancient Egyptian designs.

First of all we looked at and discussed some examples of Ancient Egyptian papyrus.

Then we looked in more detail about how papyrus paper was made....

....before using a similar method to create our own. Instead of papyrus reeds, we ripped up strips of brown paper, which having dipped in a watery glue mixture, we placed on top of each other in a criss-cross pattern on a piece of tracing paper. We flattened then as much as we could and left them to dry.

The following week, our papyrus was all dry and crispy and ready to start work on. It was time to....

First we worked out some ideas for our designs in our sketchbooks, using a mixture of pictures and hieroglyphics.

When we were happy with our designs we drew them onto our papyrus using Sharpies and thin felt pens to colour them.

We are taking our time over then, so they still aren't finished, but here are a few that are (or nearly are!!).

Check back next week to see the rest of them!
