Adventures in Printing #1

Year 4 delved a little deeper into William Morris this week.

Having looked at his designs and inspiration over the last couple of weeks, we began to focus on his printing process.

We will be moving onto looking at block printing, but our first experience was with with press printing.

Having worked out some ideas in our sketchbooks, we transferred them to a polystyrene tile, adapting them as we went along. We used a blunt pencil or the end of a thin paintbrush to get width and depth in our grooves.

When we were happy with our tile, we applied printing ink to it, using a roller and speeding in in one direction. We turned our tiles over, pressing them onto a piece on paper using a clean roller. We then carefully peeled back our tile to reveal our finished print!

We were very happy with our results!

Tiles, tiles and more sticky tiles.....

Tiles and prints....

Finished prints......which took ages to dry!
