Tin Foil Sculpting

This week was STEM week at school, so Year 3 incorporated some of their STEM skills into their art work, creating small 3D sculptures out of tin foil.

First we looked at the work of Giacometti, who created very distinctive sculptures depicting movement. Many of his sculptures were in bronze while ours would be created from foil.

We discussed what the word form meant and how we were going to focus on it in our work.

We started using our Maths skills to measure a 30cm x 30cm piece of tin foil before splitting it into different sections. We then made cuts in the foil at key measurements and stared to manipulate it into the pose we wanted.

We used our Technology skills to create some short stop-motion clips, which you can few as part of this movie:

Our tin foil people are now displayed around our classes - who knew what you could create with an easy to find household item! What a great material to recycle and create with!
