Figure Drawing

Last week Year 3 continued their Get Moving topic, this time moving on from drawing simple stick figures to trying to drawing in the correct proportions.

Up until now we had been drawing simple stick people, focusing on the key joints for movement, not worrying about the correct proportions of the body.

It was time to move on and try and get the sizing of our figures a little more accurate.

We filled our pieces of paper into 8 sections to try out the '8 head method' First we used this to make the proportions of our stick people more accurate.

We checked our proportions against each others and checked we had key parts of the body roughly in the 'right place'

Then we moved on to drawing a second, fuller figure, a bit more like the mannequins we had on our tables.

This time we compared our two drawings.

Some of us went on to do a third drawing, outlining and filling out our initial sketches further still.

Finally, we all made our own 2D paper mannequins from a template, to help us with our future figure drawing.
